The prevention continuum addresses a wide range of physical, mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders, including mental illness, obesity or addictive disorders. To be able to provide tailored diagnostics, intervention, and support that recognize individual needs but also population and environmental health parameters, elaborate concepts are needed that provide outlines for long-term sustainable prevention research and practice. This requires intersectoral cooperation, joint understanding of key terms, concepts, and approaches and interdisciplinary action. As a potential guideline, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) has recently published a Blueprints document synthesizing the state of the art and making recommendations for the implementation of such prevention systems. However, it was developed from a US perspective, so its translation to international contexts is an open question. Therefore, this campfire session will present key findings and implications from the NASEM report and contrast it with experiences and perspectives from different European countries to discuss and challenge its assumptions, recommendations and implications for an international prevention audience, including researchers, practitioners, policymakers and funding institutions.
